Whats Involved in a project?
Every commission begins with a conversation. Whether you're picturing a gate, a sculpture, a railing, or something you haven't quite put a name to yet, the first step is a consultation to talk through your vision and the specific requirements of your site.
Materials
Work is done almost exclusively in mild steel. Where another material suits the project better — Cor-Ten, bronze, brass, or stainless steel — that's used instead.
Worth knowing: 'wrought iron' hasn't been manufactured for decades. Around 99% of ironwork sold as wrought iron today is actually mild steel, and there's no practical advantage to the real thing over it.
All designs are my own, hand-drawn in pencil and paper, created with beauty in mind and in a distinct contemporary style.
Design
Traditional hot-forging techniques — punching, tenoning, riveting — give a piece both its detail and its structural strength, and are what set forged work apart from simple fabrication. Where it makes sense, these can be substituted with welded joints to bring the quote down.
Every piece is made to the standard needed to last generations, using whichever techniques best achieve that strength and integrity.

Timeframe
Manufacture and lead times vary considerably. If you're considering having something made, it's worth getting in touch early to find out where you'd stand.

Finishing
Anything destined for the outdoors is hot-dip galvanised first — even pieces that will be painted. It's the most reliable way to ensure the work lasts. From there, virtually any paint colour is possible, and powder coating is available in a wide range of colours and specialist finishes.
Installation
Unless you'd prefer otherwise, installation is handled personally. Having made the piece, there's the fullest understanding of how it's meant to go together — making this the simplest and most reliable approach.
